Once the Bolland Joker commission was completed I could not get away from the basic idea behind it. The super-villain, at his moment of triumph, in his lair, with the spoil and trophies of his victory on display.
I have always loved the Mandarin as a villain. If you are going to do a Mandarin commission featuring his enemies those "enemies" always seemed to be Iron Men in all their various forms.
Of course, when an Iron Man commission comes to mind, Bob Layton was my first choice and he exceeded all my expectations.
